Books Shape Lives—through stories that help children feel seen, heard, and understood.
Have you ever watched a child struggle to put their feelings into words?
Sometimes, the loudest emotions are the hardest to say out loud. That’s one of the reasons I write.
I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on why I write children’s books, and the answer always comes back to one thing—helping children feel seen, understood, and supported.
Writing for the Children Who Need a Voice
Not every child has someone who fully understands what they’re going through.
Some children are navigating change, big emotions, or quiet fears—and they don’t always know how to express it. Through stories, I strive to create characters who feel those same emotions… so children can see themselves reflected on the page.
Because sometimes, a child doesn’t need advice. They just need to feel understood.
Books as a Safe Place for Feelings
Books can become a child’s safe space.
Within the pages of a story, children can explore emotions like:
Fear
Change
Friendship
Confidence
Belonging
In a gentle, approachable way.
Stories allow children to process feelings at their own pace—without pressure. They can revisit them, sit with them, and slowly begin to understand them.
Turning My Educational Background Into Purpose
As an educator, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful stories can be in a child’s development.
Books aren’t just for reading—they are tools for:
Building emotional intelligence
Encouraging empathy
Sparking important conversations
Supporting social-emotional growth
I write with intention—keeping both the child and the adult reading alongside them in mind.
Creating Connection Through Storytelling
One of the most beautiful things about children’s books is the connection they create.
Between:
Parent and child
Teacher and student
Child and their own emotions
A story can open the door to conversations that might not happen otherwise.
Why It Matters
If even one child feels seen…If one conversation begins because of a story…If one family connects in a new way…
Then the story has done its job.
That’s why I write.
Each Story I Write Is a Piece of Me
Over time, I’ve come to realize something I didn’t expect…
Each series I write reflects a different part of my journey.
The Knock series is deeply personal—a reflection of my childhood and the experiences that shaped me.
Charlotte & Friends Lead the Way is rooted in my years in the classroom—the children I’ve taught, the moments I’ve witnessed, and the lessons that stayed with me.
Young Trailblazers is about hope—about helping children see what’s possible and encouraging them to step confidently into their future.
Each story carries a piece of my past, my purpose, and my belief in children.
Growing as a Writer in Unexpected Ways
I never thought I could write in rhyme.
But somewhere along this journey… I discovered that I could.
And not only that—I've come to love the rhythm, the flow, and the way rhyme draws children into a story. It adds a sense of playfulness while still carrying meaningful messages.
It’s been a reminder that growth doesn’t always happen where we expect it.
Following Where the Stories Lead
Lately, I’ve even been encouraged to explore something new—a humorous series with animal characters.
And while it may feel like a shift, it still connects to the heart of why I write.
Because whether it’s a heartfelt story or a lighthearted one…children still need joy, connection, and moments that make them feel something.
And sometimes, laughter is just as important as understanding.
The more I write, the more I realize…
These stories aren’t separate from me.They are extensions of who I am, what I’ve lived, and what I believe children need.
A voice. A safe place. A sense of hope.
And maybe even a reason to smile.
That’s why I write.
